An Allegheny Triumph of Justice

This book is the true story of Carrie Williams, a Black teacher at the Coketon Colored School in Tucker County, WV, in the burgeoning Jim Crow era (which legally sanctioned second-class citizenship for minorities). Carrie courageously challengd the all-White school board when it shortened the school term for Black students. Her attorney in this courtroom battle was John Robert Clifford, the first Black lawyer admitted to the bar in West Virginia.
