Handmade from American cherry wood. The rice paddle (Shamoji) was invented in 18th century Japan for mixing and serving rice. Rice paddles are also used for mixing vinegar with rice for making sushi. A wooden paddle will not cut rice grains in half or scratch the surface of the cooker.
